daughter arrived at their first lesson with one rented instrument between the

instantly fell in love with the saxophone and hasn’t looked back since ! At
about the same time, she joined the Riverview Concert Band (known as the

joined the Hub City Big Band at its beginnings, thus fulfilling a secret dream

Maurice Fleming - Piano
|
Maurice Fleming was born in Truro, N.S. on the first of September, l943 and
resided at Lower Onslow, N.S. until 1962 before joining the R.C.M.P.
His early musical career consisted of taking piano lessons during his school
years, playing the church organ, competing in musical festivals, accompanying
in school bands and local dance bands. His music teacher's philosophy was to
learn along classical lines, other styles would eventually develop, depending
on your own initiative.
After joining the RCMP and being posted to NB in 1963 this gave him the
opportunity to meet and play with many talented musicians around the Province
during his numerous postings. Bands included old time, dixieland, rock and
country.
His style is not limited to any particular type of music and he feels you
should always try to broaden your musical horizons by playing many different
styles. He has accompanied on several recordings with NB musicians and was
recently inducted into the NB Country Music Hall of Fame.
Maurice has played with the Big Band since the early l990s and feels that big
band era music will last forever.

Jim Sadler - Jazz Guitar and Vocals
|
Following a visit from a door-to-door guitar lesson salesman, Jim, a young
teenager at the time, was eager to begin the Saturday morning lessons! It
wasn't long before the "garage bands" formed with the odd gig at the local
junior high school. Graduating from high school, Jim answered to the call-of-
the-road and started a professional career in music touring the Atlantic
Provinces in what was sure to lead to rock & roll stardom! A six week, six
stop coast-to-coast tour of Newfoundland during the winter months of
January/February was enough to put an end to the road work. He returned home
to further his education, marry, find a job and start a family. Since, Jim
has found enjoyment being involved in several "weekend bands" playing rock &
roll, pop and the big band jazz of the Hub City Big Band.
